     CORNSTALK

     From page 8
     would return to work or after seeing the
     maintenance crew doing their rounds, I
     thought that the resilient plant would be
     gone.
       But to my surprise, it was always mowed
     around and left alone. I was ecstatic to
     see the cornstalk continue its journey. My
     moments of joy continued through the
     summer into the fall.
       The most rewarding thing to see about
