Powerful Canoe Journey rich in tradition, wisdom hand out

T he 2017 tribal Canoe Journey was gift cards
aptly named “Standing Together,” and school
meaning we can overcome the supplies
challenges of this world hand in to tribal
hand. The transnational indigenous voyage families
is a metaphor for life. It brings together before kids
communities across the Northwest from run off to
places as far-flung as Ketchikan, Alaska, enjoy fun
and Grand Ronde, Oregon. activities.

The Chehalis Canoe Family left July 20 New school year

Sending kids off to a new year of
education is an exciting time.

The K-12 Education Program and
Youth Center hosted the annual back-to-
school celebration on Aug. 15. It’s a great
way to meet the staff and provide aid to
tribal children for the upcoming school
year.

Gift cards also were given out to assist
with school supplies, which can really cut
into family budgets.

Youth Center staff greeted everyone
with a smile, backpacks and gift cards. This
continued support is greatly appreciated to
