On July 8, the Chehalis
Tribe celebrated the 160-
year anniversary of federal
recognition from the United
States government.
The official executive order
was signed on July 8, 1864, by
the Department of Interior in
Washington, D.C. It designated
the territory as lands of the
Confederated Tribes of the
Chehalis Reservation.
Events staff provided hot
dogs, drinks and cake for those
in attendance at the Chehalis
Tribal Center. Everyone was
given a crew neck sweater with
INSIDE Head Start and Oakville the tribe’s basket logo.
High School graduations Tribal elders spoke during

anniversary’s significance.
